NTLDR is missing

I got this message when I fired up my PC this morning.

"NTLDR is missing"

It said press any key to start so I did, and it started.

Windows 7 home premium on an HP Pavilion HPE. It came pre installed, so I don't think I have any disks.

(I did do the backup disk create request that HP kept bugging me to do, but I'm afraid that might not be a non destructive fix)

I looked up the problem on Google and it seems there is little agreement about whether W7 even uses the NTLDR file.

I haven't restarted my PC to see if this happens again.

The web seems to have a lot of different ways to go on this, and I was wondering what the good folks on here think.

( looked at the most recent thread that came up when I typed in the header and it was 4 years old)

Found a long thread at Microsoft Answers about this problem in Windows 7. The nice thing about this thread is that it is filled with answers from individuals with various PC setups, so likely yours (no installation disk) is in there somewhere:

Thanks AtlBo. I've got that bookmarked. I haven't shut it down since my post, but I suppose I'll have to eventually. I'll use that resource then.
