Recently I had to replace my mobo. I'm running an Epox and AMD 1.8 GHz Windows XP Professional. The Epox supports SATA but I'm running a single 40 Gb HDD IDE drive

Like many others when upgrading my mobo I've recieved the NTLDR is missing. Here are some of the things I've encounteres:

    1. When I boot with a Win98 disk I can "see" the files on the HDD. FDISK reports an active partition 1.

    2. The BIOS on POST shows the HDD, but when the SATA dialog box comes up it does not see any drives at all. It reports DRIVE 0: No Drive Found and DRIVE 1: No drive found.

    3. The BIOS is set to boot C: first and then the CD-ROM then the floppy

I made a floppy based boot disk with NTLDR, NTDETECT and a BOOT.INI file on it. This works!!! BUT, even after I copied the files to the C drive, when I reboot, I still get the NTLDR not found.

Is this something to do with the SATA??? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Disable SATA.

Boot to recovery Console off of the XP CD, and run:

    fixmbr and fixboot

There is a chance for data loss.
