NTLDR is missing

I have a 10 gig hard drive which previously had windows XP installed. I want to reformat the drive to dual boot both windows xp and windows 98se. To do this I used Powerquest Partition Manager and quick formatted the drive. I then created a Primary boot partition of 3 gig in Fat32 for the 98se install, and 7 gig in NTFS for the xp install.
I then reset the machine and tried to boot from a windows 98se CD to begin. I recieved an error "warning NTLDR is missing or invalid" message. Can anyone tell me how to get fix this error. I have tried to rebuild the MBR with ranish partition manger but it didnt work. Have I set the partitions incorrectly or what.

i had recived a message like that before to , make sure ur drive is connected properly check the jumper settings (but its not thta causing it) , i think u shud try to format agian properly

Well...it worked for me.

 

The following steps are what you should have done:

1. Install Windows 98se on the Hard Drive
2. In Windows install Partition Magic or some other Partitioning Software
3. Keep the first 3 Gigs for Windows 98SE and setup the last 7 Gigs for Windows XP and Format it NTFS.
4. Now startup the computer and boot from the XP CD.
5. Install on that the 7 Gig Partition. (Note: You will not be able to load Windows 98SE during this time.)

Then as far as what you do after that is making sure both partitions are added in the bootconfig.txt file on the hardrive.
