Hello all, I have the dreaded "NTLDR is missing" message on my wife's laptop. I have seen several complicated ways to remedy this, but since there are no valuable files on it, can I install a fresh copy of WinXP and just start over?

Absolutely; providing of course, that you have a 'working' Windows XP disk with the accompanying 'valid' 25-digit alphanumeric Microsoft product key code unique to your copy of Windows XP (this MS Product Key code is required during the installation process)

    Good Luck!
