Hello, I just made an account especifically to ask for help with a driver problem. Since I am a bit desperate I apologize if this has been solved, but I have searched this and other forums and the problems with this driver seem to be related with SATA DVD drives, and Im not even sure if mine is SATA or IDE (how can I find out?); however, I haven't made any hardware changes recently so I doubt this is the reason.

What I have done recently that I think could've caused the problem is deleting some files in the TEMP folder and in another folder called Presets inside the WINDOWS folder I believe. I was hesitant about deleting them but I did it anyway because I thougth they were temporary. In addition, on the same day (today) I kept getting Avira warnings about some virus (which I sadly can't remember the name of) but it appeared in C: simply as Setup.exe or Update.exe. After that I ran a full scan and told Avira to fix the problems. Later I decide to restart my computer, and I get a (black, not blue) screen saying that Windows can't be started because
I tried not to panic (I had formated relatively recently and I personalize my computer a lot, so going through all that all over again makes me want to give up on computers), and even if the screen says that I should repair it with the Windows CD I have a feeling that won't work. I will try that anyway, but I have to wait until tomorrow because I don't have the CD I used to install the OS - but in an act of hope, I put a different disc of the same windows but it doesn't show any repair option. I went one step further and installed Windows in a different disc to try to see if I could find this nvgts.sys file and copy it from one Windows to the other, but it's not here. It is however still in the other drive so I guess that rules out missing and the file is somehow damaged.

I've tried installing nVidia drivers but I don't see how that could help me since the problem is in another disk which I can't get into, not even via safe mode.

I am (and was) running Windows XP SP3, and my motherboard is an ASUS M2N-MX SE.

I'd be extremely grateful if someone could help me.

Just disconnected the DVD drive and nothing, tried to get into safe mode and all I get is a blank screen.

    Thanks for reading anyways

I think you should perform a safe repair installation of Windows. As long as you don't have any profile corruption (and it appears you don't), you can do the repair w/o any data loss, and all your shortcuts and apps and settings and docs will remain intact. If you're unfamiliar with a repair install, take a look at this guide. Before starting the repair install, you'll need to create an "F6 floppy driver disk". Download your motherboard chipset drivers from this direct link. When it's done, you'll have a ZIP to extract. Once extracted, open it up and use the "Makedisk" folder to create the F6 floppy (obviously you'll need a floppy disk and drive). Then when you go to perform the repair install, pay attention to the white bar at the bottom of the screen and you'll see "Press F6 to install SCSI/RAID driver" and you'll then press F6. When prompted, you'll put the floppy in and perform the repair. If you don't have a floppy drive, and you don't have one you can temporarily borrow, then you'll have to 'slipstream' the drivers into the XP install disc, but we won't go there now. If you don't have access to a floppy drive, let us know and we'll do our best to help with the slipstreaming.

Open the PC case and locate the hard drive; if the data cable is gray, and about 2" wide, then you have a IDE drive (occasionally the cables are black). If the cable is much smaller, like about a half-inch wide with a black end connector, then it's a SATA drive. If you don't want to open the case, most BIOS will provide the model number of the hard drive(s). So enter the BIOS, write down the drive model number, and type that number into your favorite online search engine and you'll get the info needed.

I do have a floppy drive, but I'll have to get my hands on a floppy disk, hopefully today.

I opened the case and as I thought, the DVD drive is IDE.

Thanks and I'll let you know how it goes as soon as I can ;D

I think I made the floppy right but (and this is personal) my computer seems to ignore when I press F6. i've tried several times, once pressing while it says to press F6 to install SCSI/RAID, pressing before, pressing after, pressing just once, pressing multiple times, and nothing, it just keeps loading and says later to press F2 to start an automated system recovery, which I did, to see if my keyboard was simply not working, but it went right into the automated system recovery. I rebooted about 4 times and couldn't do anything...

Hitting the F6 key won't immediately bring up the dialog to install drivers from the floppy drive. You have to wait for it to appear.

On another note, is this a USB keyboard? If so, you may need to use a a PS2 keyboard, or setup in the bios to enable USB keyboards.

I waited this time, and after loading some files it says:

I tried both, pressed S and insterted the floppy drive, and pressed enter like it said, but it didn't recognize it. This could be the floppy disk's fault because I had some troubles making it.

When I tried the 2nd option it loaded some files for a while and then asked me to chose a disk to install Windows.

I made the floppy, done it correctly this time. I pressed F6 and I got this:

I put the first option and I got this:

    http://img682.imageshack.us/img682/9905/p1000704f.th.jpg

I pressed S and when it was done it came back to the 1st screen again, so I went to the 2nd option and got a similar screen:

    http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/1605/p1000705x.th.jpg

I put to install the drivers from the floppy both times, then pressed enter after it was finished and it went to the install Windows screen, so I restart and nothing changes, still the same problem.
I tried again but this time letting the Windows drivers and still the same.

    Any ideas?

I just realized the Windows that messed up was on Spanish, and the disc I used to install it on a separate disk, which is the one I'm using to try to repair, is in English; is this a problem?

So... no help? This is a problem without solution? Can someone at least point me to another forums where they might know more about the subject?
