Hello guys I just have a quick question concerning graphics card and drivers.
I’ve had a few problems lately with installing new nvidia drivers for my 8600gt. And, after some great advice from you guys I used driver sweeper to delete older drivers and this seemed to fix the problem.
But to be honest I’m considering changing from my 8600gt to an ati sapphire HD 5670 512mb. I don’t really do games but I do want a card that handles HD content well and will give me good quality images. Anyway the question is, when I use driver sweeper to delete nvidea display drivers should I also select the nvidea chipset option as well as the display and physix options, before I install the ati drivers for my new card?. I know my p5k mobo has a Intel p35 chipset so I’m pretty sure selecting the nvidea chipset option will do no harm but I just want to be sure before I go ahead with the uninstall.

By the way, as I’m not a gamer what other cards would you recommend besides the hd 5670?

    Cheers guys:):

    Hello,
Do not delete the chipset drivers unless you are going to install new ones. They have nothing to do with your graphics card unless it perhaps is integrated into the motherboard. The chipset drivers are for the Northbridge and Southbridge chips on your motherboard. Intel's Sandybridge CPU has the Northbridge integrated into the CPU.

The Northbridge controls communication between the graphics (PCI-E), ram, Southbridge, and CPU.

The Southbridge controls things like USB, PCI bus, SMBus, integrated graphics, ethernet, and mass storage controllers. i.e. your sata drives.

I am not a gamer so somebody here will help you with that.

thanks tgell. driversweeper gives me the option of deleting both the intel chipset(which i'm pretty sure is the mobo) and the nvidea chipset. unless there is something on the mobo that requires the nvidea chipset then i would have assumed it was for the 8600gt. since i'll be changing to an ati card then the nvidea chipset would be obselete and therefore wouldn't do any harm in deleting. i may be mistaken though as your reply suggested.
    cheers:)

I did some research and found out that Driver Sweeper is probably flagging the additional nvidia drivers that nvidia installed along with the graphics files. People with intel motherboard have questioned this very same thing and have deleted them with no adverse effects.

great work tgell. now i can delete all traces of nvidea drivers before installing my ati card, it will eliminate all possibility of driver confliction with my new card.
    thanks again
    cheers:)
