My Dell Latitude C840 laptop recently (past couple of months) has started having strange display errors. The screen flickers and outputs junk on the screen in strange patterns, but the problem will go away after a couple of seconds.

Also, I get the NV4_display.dll has stopped functioning properly error. I think the error claims that the DLL tried to write to ROM and my computer has shut down and dumped physical memory to prevent damage to my computer. It happens any time, not just when gaming.

The laptop is ~3 years old, and I have had no problems with it until now. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, but to no avail. My first inkling is that the video card is crapping out, but I would like thoughts from others more knowledgeable than myself before I start throwing money away on a new video card. The current video card is NVIDIA GeFORCE 440 GO.

    Thanks for all your help!!

    I would reformat your harddrive.
    Download the latest nvidia drivers.
When did this problem occur? did you update a certain driver or something=)
