    I have the GF ti4200 with 128ram, AMD 3000, Via chipset KT-400.

Currently I am running the drivers from April 2004 ver 56.72 and they are working fine.

Has anyone tried the newest driver (ver 66.93) on a card like mine and is it stable and faster.

Any comments on the best way to remove old drivers and install new ones.

    tks, Gman

Some people will argue to the death with you that 'newer drivers are always better' but to me its a matter of personal experience.

I would recommend the 44.03's for any GeForce4 Ti series card (they ran the best on my Ti4600 as well as anyone else i have spoken with that had a Ti) but you should definetly try the newer ones and see if they run well.

You can get DriverCleaner from majorgeeks located HERE

after uninstalling your drivers, boot to safe mode and run Driver Cleaner to remove traces of old drivers. then restart, load windows normally and install the new ones.

as I said, if you dont like the new drivers, try the 44.03's as they should be the most optimized for your card--at least in my experience

I'm also not one to run the "latest & greatest" just because everyone else does. I'm running the 67.02's at the moment & all seems fine to me. With that said.................Some games will require that you are running a certain version or higher before allowing the installation to continue.

I have noticed in the past that the latest drivers don't give you much ( if any ) improvement in performance on older cards.

Another good utility to remove any leftovers from previous drivers is Nasty File Remover.

Take a look at my blog entry on the subject:

Personally I'm running the 56.77 drivers because I had an issue in a game which the update fixed... but if that wern't the case I'd be on the 44.03's still, since they gave me better frame rates :)

I liked the 44.03's myself when I was using the Ti4200. When Battlefield Vietnam was released, it required that I install the 56.56 drivers. Never really cared for those on the Ti. Seemed like I had more issues with other things after installing them, like tearing & missing object textures in BF1942. Figures right?
