Okay, a few of you may know what I've been doing lately..by putting in a new operating system..as in Win 98 b/c my XP was going really slow.

I'm at school right now, so I don't have full details..but

When I installed WIN 98...for some reason when I installed 98...my default card name comes up. No longer is it Nvidia..it is some pavillon crappy thing that is like 16 bit..lol..and everything looks terrible. Does anyone know how I can possibly find my Nvidia card so that everything actually works. If i go to device manager..it just has the old pavillon one..no Nvidia. I can get the full card name when I get home if that is needed for a search or anything. Please help.

Can I assume that you have the NVidia card as well as an onboard card and just wish to use the NVidia?

If that is so, is the onboard card disabeld in the BIOS? or is this not an option?
Did you install the newest drivers for the NVidia card? You computer might pick it up after the drivers have been installed.

What brand of Nvidia card did you buy it from? You MAY need to go to the manufacturer website to get the drivers.

Or temporariily use the driver cd that came with the card. Then use the updated driver from NVidia.

BTW, what model of NVidia card is this?

Make sure that any onboard graphics are disabled, and AGP is enabled (if that's what your card is)

That would explain why your nVidia card is not being detected.

You may also wanna make sure that you plug your monitor into your video card rather than your mobo plug. Also, in Control Panel try the Add Hardware program, try to get it to detect it that way.

Most computers will tell you, at the bottom of the screen, press (whatever) to enter the Bios or setup.

That key is usually F1, Del (delete), or Esc etc.

You need to repeatedly tap the key as it's booting.

If you don't enter the Bios, then you didn't tap it fast enough, or it's not the correct key.

Once in the Bios, disable onboard or PCI video and enable AGP video. (If that is what your setup is?)

well i know how to get into bios..and yeah.. i find PCI.. but it is just like PCI Configuration..then it has like 1,2,3...but no Video stuff... just like ports and then is says like ROM

You're in the wrong section ryan, you need the video section of your Bios.

Keep in mind I don't know your setup, so only do this if you know you have onboard video (to disable), and your card is AGP (enable).

I must be doing something wrong.. there are sections at the top of the bios.. like Main, Power, Boot, Exit, and a few other things..I've gone through them all but can't find anything to do with onboard video stuff

Let's go back a gear, do you have onboard video at the moment, and the card you installed is AGP?

i'm sorry, but could you explain that to me?

Okay, basically here is what happened.

I know for a fact that when XP was installed before i installed 98 [u know why] I had a game [NBA LIVE 2005]. I remember checking out my settings..and I had an NVidia card. I can't remember the full name of it though, because now that 98 is installed..I can't find anything to do with it. What exactly is an onboard card? All I can tell you is that now under the display settings..I have some crappy 16 bit Pavillon M50 on Standard PCI Graphics Adapter (VGA) ...does that help?

I've never heard of 16bit Pavillon, but that doesn't mean anything.

Onboard is basically a video card (chip) built in to the motherboard, so you don't need a video card.

Download EVEREST and post the log as an attachment. (Don't copy and paste please, only attach it)

It does seem like you have onboard video, so you need to find the setting in your Bios to disable it and enable the nVidia card.

(I won't be on for a little while, but someone else will look at it for you and take over if I'm not)

Also..I know right now my PC only has 183 ram..and that is simply because one of my 256 sticks or whatever you like to call them is out right now...because some guy is putting it in for me. Okay.. here it is attached..

I wish everyone was as easy to help as you. :)

A new PC is the way to go, your current one is pretty dated.

If you need help with choosing hardware, just start a new thread.
