nVidia Hybrid SLI

nVidia Hybrid SLI is more-or-less the same as regular SLI except that it's only available in Vista and W7, and it uses the motherboard's video as the 2nd video card in the SLI configuration. But you already knew that, right? What I'm wondering, does it actually make a significant difference in the graphic computing power? I'm thinking about buying a new motherboard, and I was going to go with a regular 2-slot SLI board, but money is a bit tight and the hybrid-SLI boards are cheaper. I have no immediate plans to add a 2nd video card to my GTX260 c216, but I was thinking that it would be nice to have the option to, and that's why I was looking at a 2-slot SLI board, but if hybrid-SLI will provide a decent performance boost, I'll save the money and go that way. It's not like my performance is lagging now, it's freekin' great, but in the future I know things will need more 'ooomph'.... any thoughts or suggestions or whatever are encouraged and appreciated.

i've read somewhere that the main gpu still does most of the work...like physx and such, but having the other onboard gpu "help out" with excess operations. my concern i guess would be what gpu is onboard, as using it along with gtx260, you won't see any noticable improvement. My guess is it may help for running dual displays, but i don't think you would need sli for that.

one of the configs ive seen is using the lower end gpu strictly for physx and the main gpu for everything else. but i don't think anything under 8800 series does physx? (i could be wrong, maybe 8600 does too? )

 

A friend of mine recently built a new unit & used the "nVidia Hybrid SLI " .
From what we could tell it seems to be more of a marketing gimmick then anything.
His was actuall faster [gaming] with just the grapics card working.

I'm not sure he had everything set right so you may get different results.
