This is the first computer I assembled from scratch, so keep that in mind. I bought the NVidia 9600 GSO and the MSI DKA790GX Motherboard. I boot up without putting power to the PCI Express card and it boots find using the on-board controller, but when I plug the card in neither the video card nor the on-board controllers will work. When I try to install the drivers for the video card it says no drivers found for your current hardware configuration. Im pretty lost right now and would appreciate any help. Please remember that this IS my first computer built solely by myself so feel free to state the obvious because its quite possible I missed something. Thanks in advance. Now I gotta go take my math final :cry

Off the top of my head--can your power supply handle the load.

It appears as though you need to go into the BIOS and disable the on-board video. Re-boot your machine and when it gets to the POST screen hit the 'delete' key and that should take you to a blue screen (BIOS). Find the heading marked 'integrated perhials' (pardon the lousy spelling) and find 'on-board' video, or something of that nature, and change the setting to 'disable.' When that's done hit esc, F-10 and then yes and your machine should boot up normally. Now re-install the drivers for your vid card. Hopefully, that will solve your problem. Let us know how it goes!!;)

I dont think the power supply is the problem but go ahead and take a look.

They didn't have that exact option, but I messes around with it and changed the primary screen to PCIe and now I can't see anything. So now I need to reset bios (help plz) and fix my other problem.

    Thanks again.

Seems like we may just have a conflict here. Your on-board video is ATI and you want to install a nVidia card. ATI and nVidia don't play well together!! Since you're back to using on-board video, can you get to the desktop? Also, have you installed the chipset driver for your MB? IF you can get to the desktop, right click on 'My Computer', then 'properties', then 'hardware' and then 'device manager.' Scroll down to sound and video and click the '+' sign. Are there any yellow "?" or "!" marks in front of anything?

There are 2 "?!" that just say PCI Device. The card is the only PCI device that I have installed. I didn't know they don't go well together >.<

I am currently using the dark blue slot.

Thanks for the responses! Please keep them comming! Im gonna look up some more stuff on it too now that I know they don't go well with each other. Thanks again!!!
