NvView & NvMain. What are they?

I've recently noticed a new application in documents&settings/allusers/applicationdata called NvView.

It also loads up in process manager when I boot up my pc (using between 40000 & 47000KB of memory).

I've got absolutely no idea what it is. I've scanned with Spybot S&D and also ZA Internet Security and both have come up clean. I've also tried searching Google but it's seems to mention a lot of things to do with NVidia (this is not hardware which I have installed).

If anyone could help that would be fantastic. If you need me to post a HJ This log then please let me know.

    Thanks.

Most files/processes that start with Nv are related to NVidia; you probably have an NVidia video card, chipset, or some other NVidia device in your PC. If you have no NVidia hardware, then they may also be part of the game Neverwinter Nights. But the most likely source of these files is nVidia. If you could post your motherboard make/model, we could know for sure if you have no nVidia devices....

Do you mean nView? If you have a nVidia graphics card and have nVidia's software installed, you should see an icon in your Control Panel for NVIDIA nView Desktop Manager, and perhaps another icon for NVIDIA Control Panel. I have those two icons in my system. I have the latest version of nVidia's driver installed, 169.21.

Exactly what is the name of the process you see in Task Manager?

I've had a look at the motherboard name and it says Dell Dimension 8400. As far as i'm aware the graphics card is a Radeon X300 series.

    It simply appears as nvview.

Well, I think I can say this much. It isn't a nVidia file because, if it was, the name would be nview, not nvview. Do you have an item in your Add or Remove Programs panel for "NVIDIA drivers"? Do have any nVidia icons in your Control Panel?

No, i've not got anything which mentions Nvidia.

What tools are you using for malware removal and virus detection?

If you terminate that process in Task Manager, do you notice any difference in your system's behavior?

Can you locate that file (9nvview.exe, right?) by searching for it? You might try simply deleting it to the Recycle Bin, then restarting your computer and see whether it reappears in your process list.
