O/S on it's way out?

Hi:

In the last couple of days, I have started my computer to only receive a blue screen with the following message:

"An exception 06 has occured at 0028: C9E801AF in V x D TM_CFW (02) + OOOOOF. This was called from 0028:C001D218 in V x D NDIS(01) + 000005B30. It may be possible to continue normally. *Press any key to continue *Press CTRL + ALT + DEL to restart your computer. You will lose any unsaved information in all applicatons. Press any kety to continue."

I suspect my computer's o/s is starting to not work and that I need a new computer. To counter this error, I have had to use my Win ME Boot disk and then it seems fine. But if I start without it, the same screen appears with different numbers.

What is everyone's thoughts?

Specs:

Win ME
12.2GB HD
256 MB Ram
AMD K-7 Processor 600 MHZ
Computer purchased in 2000

Other than this error, I have taken good care of the system with proper virus protection, spyware, etc.

1. Try booting to safe mode and see if you get the screen.

2. If not, start the computer in normal mode using the Win ME Boot disk if necessary and first try uninstalling any HP printer/scanner software you have installed and restart.

3. If you still get the error message, uninstall your anti-virus/firewall and restart. See if you get the error.

It could be one of those 2 things (scanner/printer, firewall/antivirus) and uninstalling then reinstalling might solve the problem. But, you should be able to tell which one by following the steps.
