Occasional Problem with DVD1241E (Creative) DVD-Rom Drive

I recently had a problem when I tried to play a particular DVD with my Creative Labs Encore DVD-Rom player (model #1241E). When I start the DVD using PC-DVD Player (the software that comes from Creative Labs for this device) it gives me a dark green, puce-colored screen in the player and then locks. When I try to remove the DVD manually, OR I end process for the PC-DVD Player in the Task Manager, I get a "PROCESS_HAS_LOCKED_PAGES" blue screen and have to reboot. I have the latest drivers and firmware updates for the device (and its decoder card). This has never happened before on any other DVD, and THIS DVD is playable through the reader if I use Windows Media or Real Players (but the sound sux since it goes through my sound card rather than directly from the decoder card). Any thoughts on what might be going wrong here? FYI: I got a different copy of this same DVD from my local rental shop just to see whether it was something to do with scratches on the first one that gave me the blue screen of death. Got the same problem in both cases.

Sorry to bother you with this, but I've looked all over DVD Forums and Creative Labs' user forums, and nothing seems to be available that involves this particular sort of intermittent problem. Thanks in advance for any advice.
