Odd ATI CCC start problem

So here's the deal...

I have an ASUS P5T Deluxe WIFI Mobo, but I use no WIFI anymore. A while back, I bought two ATI 4850 cards and had to reflash the bios so that the Catalyst suite would recognize two cards and let me SLI. It all went well, and my world was happy.

ATI published a fix patch. I DLed that and installed it. It ran even better. Still happy in my world.

past week I've been getting lockups while playing Lord of The Rings Online. Screen freezes, mouse pointer vanishes, keyboard goes out to lunch. I have to power down and re-boot to get it all back, and it then works fine. Well, granted, it could be the game, but I figured I'd check the video settings just for giggles. I try to start the Catalyst suite and it all went downhill...

Mouse pointer blinked a few times, then evaporated. After another 15 seconds or so, the screen goes blank and the machine re-boots. Much to my chagrin, I now know it will happen EVERY time I try to start the Catalyst suite. So OK, I figure, I'll check ATI. Oh look. A new Catalyst suite. I uninstall the old one and install the new one (along with driver). No soap. It still cannot run the Catalyst software.

I can't find anything on the ATI/RADEON support forums that shows anyone else having a similar problem. I had to go into startup in safe mode and shut off the ATI Catalyst startup software in order to stop it from doing endless re-boots.

I'm thinking I need to be able to log what happens when I try to start this thing, but how? Anyone got any ideas? It'd be nice to be able to check the *%$# card settings.
