Odd noise coming from PC

I need to do a little setup to explain the situation with this computer in hopes this helps diagnose the problem.

We have a PC here at work that makes an odd noise at start up. It is a HP dx2250. It's an odd clicking noise. It makes a few clicks, pauses, and makes a couple of more clicks. It boots up fine.

This PC has been weird since we got it. We have several others just like it. After having it about a year, the hard drive in it died. It made an awful noise. I was able to recover some files from it, but it was a pain.

I get a new hard drive for it, runs fine for a while. Something starts making that clicking noise. It still runs fine for a while and then starts running slower. Thinking it's the hard drive, I get another new one (different brand) and load Windows onto it. It immediately starts making that clicking noise again. That hard drive eventually dies.

I still have the second hard drive from it and put it into one of the other computers just like it. It does not make that noise. When I put it back in the original machine, it starts making that noise.

I thought it was something else making that noise. But I keep listening closely to where the sound is coming from and it sounds like the hard drive. If it is the hard drive, what is causing every hard drive to do this? If the noise is not from the hard drive, where else could it be coming from?

It might be that your power supply is putting out too much voltage and it's actually frying each new HD you put in. Recommend replacing PSU.

 

I thought about the power supply. I'll see if we have a spare one and put it in there to see what it will do.
