Okay well every once in awile I get "Page Cannot be Displayed Problem" for any sites. Google, Majorgeeks, any site. I am still connected, I can chat on MSN and ping IPs. I called my ISP and they say maybe it's your winsock. So I get a program I found in a thread here somewhere and still, I get the problem again. The weird thing is, I can't go to majorgeeks.com BUT I can go to http://66.98.158.200/ ... Okay so does anybody have an idea of what to do?

    Thanks in advance.

Your computer's having trouble communicating with DNS servers, which are the ones that translate the www.majorgeeks.com to 192.168.0.1 (the ip address is a dummy address, don't bother pinging it, I made it up)

I think that theyre right by saying it's the winsock.

(but I don't know how to fix it)

i had a similar problem way back when, only with me it was i could connect just fine, but i never go to any sites or ping anyone, period, which is odd that your isxue only occurs at times because if it was something internaly wrong then it would be a problem that never stops, like mine, which leads me to belive theree is a peice of software interfearing with it or that it might even be server side

tho this may not work you can always try re doing your networking properties, remove ur tcp/ip and dialup bindings an put them back in, also cheack to se that urr computer is automatically retriving an ip adreess and find out if there are any wingates or anything u need specific ip's for from your servver

and if all else fails u can always track down ur winsock and related files, back them up, delete them, and replace them

sorry i couldnt be more help

SwatShark had this problem too. His problem turned out to be one of the Windows™ updates he'd installed. The update had the last three digits 330, I think... but don't take my word on that. You may want to ask Shark just to be sure.

    edit

To tell the truth, I've had this problem as well. It doesn't happen all that frequently, but I just hit the refresh button and that's that. As for the Major Geeks web address, I get the same thing... an IP address instead of a domain name.

I'm not sure how to remove the tcp/ip or dialup bindings, sorry. But I tried replacing winsock with this one program I found in a search I did...

No site will work, however I can connect to a P2P program and download files without any trouble...

Damn this sucks, I'm in my mother's computer now...

    Thanks for the help guys.

Something odder. My internet worked this afternoon. I downloaded MYIE2 and it kept on saying Page cannot be displayed. I tried IE, and it worked. Is there something possibly wrong with the new MYIE2 version?

    Okay, some new problem.

It seems now IE won't work either... I'm sorry about the extra posts, but this problem is REALLY annoying. I've called my ISP numerous times, but I keep getting different suggestions.

    Like nesth --> dump

    Or Recycle Modem

    Repair winsock..

Ugh, I don't know what to do...

Thanks in advance to whoever is nice enough to help,

Balbanebeoulve, I don't know from which part of the world you are from, but some of the DNS servers in Europe have been having problems. Also one of the major comunication lines between the European continent and England was damaged, causing some problems with internet and other comms. I've been having on and off problems all week with unresolved host errors and time lags for resolving hosts.

I use Firebird 0.7 and in the status bar it says resolving host, and if it fails you get an error message of unable to locate website name.

I believe it is just a glich in the net as it isn't all the time. If it was a winsock problem, it wouldn't "fix itself" and start working again a few minutes later.

I'm tellin' ya man... talk to SwatShark. Either him or Cashy, I can't recall, but they had the exact same problem. Someone had to post for him, because he couldn't even get major geeks site to come up. This was all caused by an update for the Windows™ operating systems. I'd look into it, because as soon as (whoever it was) uninstalled the update, things were back to normal for 'em. If you have Windows™ updates installed, I'd try removing the one causing the problem.

Only problem is, I can't recall the update that causes the problem. I have a pretty good memory, and I'm thinking the update (he) removed ended with 330. Now... you know most of the updates begin with a Q followed by 6 digits. If you have one installed that has 330 in the last 3 digits, try uninstalling it. Either that or talk with Cashy or SwatShark just to be sure which update it was.

I removed that thing, it seems a bit better now. And MYIE2 didn't work because zonealarm stayed alive in the background. I even disabled it from startup, bjut it stayed alive. Damn program =/
