Using an AMD 450mhz, my cpu idles at around 20-30% (wtf?). However, when I start playing a song, in either media player OR winamp, the cpu shoots to the max. While typing this message, every keystroke sent my cpu at or near the max (cpu monitor is indicating this). Hell, even moving my mouse causes hte cpu to skyrocket. Using windows 98se. What is going on here?

Try running Ad-Aware SE Personal and Spybot Search and Destroy. Both are spyware cleaners and can be found on the Spyware Tools download page here at Majorgeeks.
