Odd (to me) CCleaner Analysis

Just downloaded the latest (today's) version of CCleaner.

Now, perhaps I had never checked the "Windows Error Reporting" box previously, but this seems (again, to me) like A LOT (over 2-GIG !?!) of error reports (please see attachment).

Can someone advise as to whether I should look deeper into this please?

    Thanks in advance,

    Hi Glenn

Not really, depends on what raft of errors you have been having, some collect a vast amount of data and also depends on what Windows version you are using also, Which Windows you using here? the other thing that these error reports build up with is the Reliability History in Vista and Win7, this tracks your crashes of Windows and 3rd Party apps, so if you have an app thats faulting alot this will add up to the amount of crash logs being generated.

Clear it all out and see what in a day or so the resulting figure looks, like, if its high then you'll need to check the Event Logs for multiple issues that are happening within a 24hr period.

Unless your PC is crashing alot or BSODing then I wouldnt worry too much, let CCleaner clear it out, but I dont have that box checked at all, if its not causing the PC any ills or you loosing too much space after you cleaned it out for 1st time, then leave along, not worth the time and effort IMHO, but if its constantly happening then as mantioned about you may need to look into what app is faulting and generating alot of logs, if Vista or Win7 do check the Reliability History (should just be able to type into the Start Search box Reliability to find the listing for this or Performance and Reliability Monitor in the administrative tools section of Control Panel)

Good write up on this tool HERE at Technet

NSA 7 passes, that must take a while to run? 2 or 3 pass would be fine unless you are planning to overthrow a dictatorship.

One never knows - eh? haha

Hi David and thanks as always.

This is the Vista (Home) machine I am speaking of here, and yes, Heaven knows I continue to have (what I refer to as) "crashes" (freezing, Lock-ups, "Not Responding", etc., etc., etc....). Vista has been a disappointment for me in this respect - as you may recall, I have still never (ever) even gotten a printer to work on this system ... not one in six or eight attempts - with three or four different printers.

This all tends to go in cycles, usually when I change or add something (software program or new hardware). And while I'm certain that a good bit of it is my own fault/error(s), I have not had anywhere near the same issues (in recent years) with the XP (also Home) machine.

The funny thing is, the Vista machine, when "working" (75-90% of the time) is still quite noticeably faster than my XP. I suppose this is due to an extra Gig of RAM (3 total for Vista here) and a 250GB Hard Drive as opposed to the 2 Gig of RAM and the 20Gig HD that XP has to work with here, as well as a 2.1 Athlon 4000+ Dual processor vs. the 1.8 Intel (Pentium IV?).

Thanks again, and I will clear it, clear the check-box, and check-back on it periodically - oh and thanks for the Technet link - I will look at it, as I am OFTEN looking into the Performance & Reliability monitor of this machine...
