What Windows Version and Service Pack are you using?


At a wild guess it sounds like you may have some form of malware and I would run the Read me guide below and start a new thread in the malware forum.

note: you may just need to crop the image if its too big to attach and just save the relevant bit.


Also please do answer all questions if asked, the info is really needed to assist... as in What Windows Version and Service Pack are you using? ( to get this Right Click My Computer then choose Properties, or click Start > Run and type winver and hit enter )

The Taking Screenshots link I posted in post #4 will tell you how to get a screenshot with a few methods, easiest method is to Press PRTSCRN on your keyboard to capture the screen with the box, then open MS Paint and click Edit > Paste, then to crop the image as it maybe too big to attach click the Select Tool ( circled in red below ) and drag a box over the area in question, then right click inside the box and choose Copy, then click File > New and click Dont Save, then click Edit > Paste to paste the new crop and then click File > Save

Then you can attach.


as for Vista, the majority of the time it has issues in in using non compatible software, this was the same when XP was first released and we were all going from Win98SE/ME to XP, some software was not compatible and took a while to catch up with working versions, so is always worth double checking what software your installing, while it may have worked OK in XP it may not do in Vista.

I agree at times any OS needs to get to at least SP1 ( again XP was the same ) to get 1st round of issue fixed, SP1 for Vista is just around the corner, but for me I have had no major issues with Vista for nearly going on 14 months.

 

Yep you could and I thought of that also, but reason I discounted it is that on average the size of a full screenshot would be around 200-250KBs so way over the 97KBs that the forum allows for attachemnts, so the MS Paint ( also in Vista ) route was the easiest to get a crop I thought of at the time.

Could have gone the route with getting a screenshot with Vista's Snipping Tool ( this tool cannot crop natively so still needs the image opened up in an image editing application ) then uploading it to an online image host, but at times if a member is not aufait with screenhots and uploading to images hosts so a small set of step by step instructions ( with images ) are needed, would you be willing to type one out?

Swings and round-a-bouts really to getting screenshots really, no rights and wrongs, just what maybe easier for the user.

But to Barratt-t, I do still have a feeling that you have malware, so running the steps I posted in the earlier post of mine, will rule this out.
