If you load Office 2007 and then try to use spell checker in Outlook Express, it only checks in French!! Tried "Compuable's fix and it doesn't work. Does anyone out there know how to fix this? Greatly appreciate your help!
Please try to explain your fix in simple english so I can do it.

    Try this:
    • Open Outlook Express
    • Tools >Options >Spelling Tab
    • Go to the bottom of that page, and you will see a LANGUAGE drop-down menu. Click that drop down menu until ENGLISH shows in the window
    • Click Apply and OK
    • close OE & reboot

You should have English spelling now.. I also have OE 6, and that is how it is showing in mine. Not hard to do, really..

I hope I made it simple enough for you, if not, give a holler and we'll give it another try. ;) Hope this works out for you.:)

    Hi,
I don't think you understand the problem. That option to select the English dictionary is not there after you have install Office 2007. The solution is to download a spell checker and install in OE. This works! I appreciate the Geeks input to solving this. Their download page is really difficult to understand but it works.
    Thanks anyway.:)

Thank you for the reply :) No, I don't have Office 2007 installed. The download pages are set up so you can get the download that is closest to you, to where you live ... Just takes a little getting used too is all.. I hope you got it all sorted out tho. ;)

I am having the same problem. I had Office 2000 and every thing in Spell-Check worked fine. After Up-Grading to ) Office 2007 Ultimate, my Spell-Check in Outlook Express 6 is now in French and I do not have any other Dictionaries in my Outlook\Tools\Options\Spelling\Language , other than French.
I just got off the Live Chat with Microsoft and they sent me to this Site.

Quote " You can download the free spell check program for Outlook Express at the following web link: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=2952"
"Preston: After opening the above link, click on the any one of the file named “MajorGeeks”.

Went there and didn't find the Down-Load. Guess I must just be Stupid :-o

    HI

Sadly Office 2007 Proofing Tools dont support the older Outlook Express as its development was finished many years ago, not a good thing mind but happened as the replacement for OE is Windows Live Mail, however some dont like WLM.

    There is three options:

    1. Install OE Spellcheck a 3rd party spellchecker.

    2. Install Windows Live Mail as it comes with its own built in spellchecker

    3. Try this, but you need at least Office 2000, XP or 2003 in you can run a custom install of an older Office version and untick all Office applications to Not Available (red X icon), then expand the Office Shared Features branch and just choose Proofing tools and expand its branch out and choose English and set to Run from My Computer and finish the install, then once installed open OE and goto Tools > Options and iirc verify Spelling is set to English

*note option 3 is from memory and steps maybe different per Office version but all have a custom install and all you want is the Proofing Tools.
