    Lost OE messages

Have installed old hard drive into new computer and wish to locate all my stored messages in OE - can that be done and how. I tried the import facility but it won't import from OE on the old drive and I don't know what to search for and how to access it if I do find it!

Want to say thanx for all the other help I have received - everything is going fine now.

do a search on your old hard-drive for *.DBX

those are your old OE mailbox files. Just point the import utility to the directory that it locates them in and you're all set ;)

XP - After installing old hard drive in new computer I cannot access my OE unread messages and stored messages and don't know what type of files to look for.
I have tried the import function but it doesn't want to import from another OE app.
    Can someone hep please?

    Mailbox Files

Jenny: I don't use OE, but I think you'd look for .dbx & .mbx files? Guessing here, hth George.

Jenny, I took the liberty of merging your other thread about this problem with this thread. I replied to you in your other thread and it can be seen above. You need only post once for a problem.. someone will be around to help sooner or later. :D

(if you haven't already figured it out)

If you're running XP, go to my computer -> local disc C (or whatever drive you use as your hard drive) -> documents and settings -> (your user name) -> local settings -> application data -> identities

Copy all the folders inside there that have gibberish names. That is where your mail is stored.

Note: If you cannot see the folder "Local Settings" then do the following:
(with a folder open) on the top menu, click tools -> folder options -> view
Click the button labeled "show hidden files and folders". Click ok.

Using this method, all folders and messages in OE will be intact when you import them. I've used this method before and it works great.
