OEM Vista Corruption

A friend asked me to look at her Gateway DX4640 that is running Vista Home Premium SP1. The machine is under warranty for two more months.
The adminsitrator account was locked, and they could not remember the user login information. I called Gateway support to see if there was a back door into it. The tech said no, Vista does not have that, and I would have to re-install Windows.
I have attempted to re-install Vista twice now, and it hangs at the same spot in the status each time. I called Gateway again, this time I was told that the OEM DVD was obviously corrupt. I will have to BUY another one! When I said it was still under warranty, he said the HARDWARE was, but software is only 90 days.
Are you aware of any utilities that can help me with this, so I do not have to purchase another DVD? Frankly, I think it is total BS for Gateway to take that stand. People should re-install every PC before 90 days then, just to be sure that their OEM software is okay...rolleyes

Any advice is appreciated!

...to add to your rant, how do you know that the next DVD you purchase from them will not be corrupt, the same as this one?
Apparently they shipped a faulty DVD with this computer.
I'd call back, hopefully you will get another tech support person. If you are treated the same, ask to speak to a supervisor. At this point, you don't have anything to lose and might save a few $$$.
