On Dell Dimension L800r running w98se and Internet Explorer, OEMJI showed up tried to take over from google homepage; when I used Add/Remove Programs to remove OEMJI, it forced me into a re-install of 98se. In restarting, everything is normal until after the ms 98se audio tone, then get message "Explorer-this program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down." The details link reads "EXPLORER caused an invalid page fault in module EXPLORER.EXE at 016f:00401f31." Then it lists several registers, bytes at..., and stack dump.... When I click on close, the screen is blank except for my screen saver image. When I ctrl-alt-del, the close program window appears but no program is shown.

Your ideas and assistance in resolving this is greatly appreciated.

Can you boot in safe mode? If so, run msconfig in safe mode and see if there is something odd in the start up.
