You may not have noticed.....bunch of goobers!!.....but I haven't been around since Monday. Lost internet. Windstream ( my ISP ) said they couldn't get around to it until today, Thursday!! And just what did they do? Brought out a new Router. That was it!!! Plugged it in and took the old one. Now anyone want to tell me why it would take 4 days to drop off a router and spend 5 minutes plugging it in......or better yet, why I couldn't have just gone to their main switching block and gotten one from one of their tech's?? ( Oh, right, they got me by the balls.....nevermind! )

Yep that would piss me off too :mad:
Jeez, I go nuts if my internet is down for 4 hours

Worst ever outage for me was when they were doing network upgrades and it was off for 8 hours on a Sunday night from 10pm until 6am Monday morning and they notified us 3 weeks ahead of time

Several years ago we had a ice storm that brought trees down on power lines and phone lines. No internet, electricity, or phone for 14 days. The temperature was 0 most of that time. Hope that never happens again.

I had a nearly 2 days outage earlier this year. I used the LTE internet access on my cellphone as a temporary replacement. Worked pretty well

14 days is a pretty slow response.....I guess if the whole area is out then I suppose they have to prioritise :(

My friends live in The Dangenong Ranges near the top of Mount Dandenong and it is an area surrounded by heavy forest. A couple of months ago we had a real wind storm and trees came down over power lines in his area and they lost power and internet for three days so he went out and bought a generator so that all the food in his big freezer didn't go off........lucky he has a wood fire for heating and also has a BBQ that runs on bottled gas ;)

I do the same and then tether my smartphone to my PC.
Fortunately I have different ISPs for my Mobile Modem and Smartphone. ;)

Sometimes technology sucks....or our dependence on it. One of those. Sometimes I wish for the days when we didn't have smartphones. But then I forget the name of something and look it up on my phone. lol

Anyway, that's awful Tim. Sorry about that. You might want to check out whether your local library carries Hot Spots to rent just for future reference. We have them at ours and rent ours out for $2 a day. They come in handy.

As far as electric...the house we moved into tends to lose power more than our old. We've been here a year and already lost power for 2 days once. My husband just had a full house generator put in. I'm sure that'll guarantee we don't ever lose it again.

Yeh mate, seems a standard response from ISP's these days.......just replacing the gateway router is an ass cover for them!

Whats wrong with tethering your cell and using the 4g network? (data constraints allowed)

    No excuses mate :p

I did use my cell phone for a few "emergency" look ups......and was notified once I finally got back online that I had used 94% of my allotted data.
Windstream declared bankruptcy a little while back, so it makes me wonder if they may be purposefully trying to piss people off. They either have far too many problems to deal with or not enough people to do the work. 4 days!!!

Im the same.....dont use a cell much for internet access so my data allowance is on a low plan to save costs!
A couple hours surfing and the tide is gone for another month.

Its hard to get just a 'fair go' today from ISP's.

In Oz we are way behind you guys in terms of access and speed, a mate just got FTN in a new housing estate where he built his dream home.

It all looked really flash, but what a drama it was getting it right.....I wont bore you with the details unless you have a day or 2 to spare

We were without power for 8 1/2 days and it was miserable. The nights were so long! We have gas logs in our one fireplace and the gas dryer and water heater still worked. We also have a propane camp stove so I could make coffee on the side porch and use up some of the food in the refrigerator.
No smart phone so every night we went to a McDonald's for light, heat, tv, newspaper, and some food. Eventually I couldn't charge anything. I dropped a laptop at a friend's and asked her to plug it in. I told her we'd pick it up when we had power restored.

I now have a smart phone and we've decided that if a power outage is longer than a day, we'll go to a hotel use free wifi, breakfast included, working tv and place to plug in an old laptop and a tablet.

Most of the things I've heard about Windstream has not been good. You have my sympathy if you are stuck using them as your ISP.

There are only two alternatives....viastat and hughesnet...both limit your data speed after a certain amount. So yes, stuck!!
