    Hi All:

Any help would be appreciated. The posts on this topic are old and mostly apply to windows xp. I am running windows vista and can't install Office 2003. It conitnually stops on loading sku011.cab and asks you to browse to the original install location. I have pointed it right to the file on the installation cd; saved a new version of sku011 in another location and pointed it to that, but no matter I do, it will now continue.

Other posts for xp say to go into the registry and change the cd cache value to 0 from 2, but in vista, there is no cdcache in the registry and I could not find a logical corellary.

I have also tried to run listool to enable the local installaiton source (which other posts say has worked) but thelistool program won't run because it says the MSO.dll file is missing or damaged. I have copied that file from another machine and pasted into its default location, and then tried to run listool and even that won't work.

    HELP!

Is this an original MS CD or a copy?

I am using a backup copy, though other posts have indicated having problems even with the original cd. any thoughts?

    Hi

Just in case their are old reminents of Office on your PC, run the Cleanup tool here and remove any Office components if listed as this issue can happen when trial versions of Office have been on a PC.

Then from the admin account on Vista run the setup from the original disk and not a backup, even try right click and Run as Administrator on the setup.exe

Is Vista fully upto date with latest Service Pack?

I downloaded the utility and ran it. It comes up with a list of programs which it apparently will "clean up after." Microsoft Office is not one of the programs listed and neither are any of the component programs like word, excel, etc. Should I let it run (clean up) even if Office is not listed and it is warning me that it will make permanent changes ot my system and that I may need to reinstall someor all of the programs listed? if required to do so, it might be tough since I bought a pre loaded laptop and got no program disks with it. thanks for your help!

    NO!!!
The windows cleanup tool lists things that you might wish to cleanup. You never select everything on the list. If one program was listed that was causing problems, like Word, then that would be the only thing you would select. Also before you cleanup, it is always good to create a system restore point just in case something goes wrong.

thanks, as I assumed this, I did not run the clean up utility past where I said in the last post. Also, in researching this issue some say I should run the Listool utility and move, enable or disable the local installaiton source to fix my problem but I cannot run the utility as it says Litool cannot find mso.dll or it is damaged. either repair your office installation or try running listool in quiet mode. Help!

    I've seen these steps mentioned:
    1. Turn off UAC.
    2. Uninstall Office 2007.
    3. Install Office 2003.
    4. Turn UAC back on.

I have also just been told to install the cd to the local drive and try to install from that source rather than from the cd under the premise that the reason it can't/won't cache the cabs is because it islooking for an original installation source other than the cd for some reason. Any thoughts?

Thanks for the UAC idea Plodr. I'll try that.
