    This has me going crazy...

Client has a Dell Insprion 300M XP Pro has all service packs and patches.
Installed Office 2k3 Outlook and logged onto our network exchange server......and imported in the users .pst file. Now when run Outlook... shut down outlook the thing hangs....for ever until I end task it. Where the clock is on the task bar, one can see the icon for outlook and when you hover over it you get Outlook is not responding right click Outlook icon in notifacation area if your using exchange sever press end server connection or something like that. Well you cant there are no options when you right, left or double click the icon, So you have to end task and when you reopen outlook it wants to start in safemode and it's just not good. This laptop is for a vip and they dont get it...and the truth is I dont get it either. Reinstalled the os and office and I still get the same results. This is the only problem like this on the network.
Could it be the .pst file?? Is there something I'm missing??
    Please help if you can....
    Thanks

This is OFFICE 2003 Small Bus Edition connected to Windows Server 2003 SBS and Exchange. This problem only happens when I add the Exchange account...if I remove the exchange account it does not happen.....

    sometimes problems carry over.. ;)

In any case, it definately sounds like outlook is not disconnecting from exchange. Let me do some more digging.

if you have any virus scanners running and/or plugins to outlook, disable and try again.

Hi mpc. I googled around a bit and found one common thread relating to outlook hanging. Seems like the size of your pst file may have a big part of what's wrong. Newsoft over in Aussieland puts it the most simply. Remember though, they are selling a product ;) but I like the . . . ahem . . . direct approach they use to state the problem and the cure.

Well I had to take down the laptop....and bring in a temp pc. Imported in the VIP's .pst file and added them to exchange...and there appears to be no problems at this time. Should I reinstall a different copy of XP pro and Office 2k3 on this laptop hoping it will make a difference??? Help a lonley I.T. guy out.
    Thanks

Before you re-install office 2k3 you could try a Detect and Repair it may resolve any issues with that install.

Halo thanks for your help in this hair pulling matter...I have tried to use Detect and Repair with no luck. It's just the one laptop with this issue it's not the exchange account so it must be the laptop...maybe the registry??? Not sure. Again Thanks to you ALL!!

Well I did that and now everything seems to stick...ie ToolBar when I click on the Properties the thing hangs...

Is there a command you can use with the XP cd to check the dll files??

I'd like to get this running right before I mess with Office any more...

    Thanks again.

    Well here are my results...

After reformating twice and installing XP Pro and updating the bios...I finally got Outlook2K3 to work right. Must have been the bios I guess.

    Thanks for all the help.....
