    Hi all :cool

A friend of mine is having some trouble retrieving his network password which he saved as a microsoft word doc.

He wrote the password and saved it using word but the problem he says he faces now is, the version of word he was using was a 60 day trial and now he says he can't access the word document to get his network password?

I have never came across this problem and I always assumed that if the trial expired you could at least look at your saved documents yet he tells me that this is not the case?

    Any help appreciated.

If the password is just saved as plain text and not in a table, then you'll be able to read it by opening the document in Wordpad.

That is strange :confused is the DOC password protected in some way?
Has your friend tried some MS word alternatives?

    AbiWord

    OpenOffice

    LibreOffice

If your friend would rather research the various MS Word alternatives before deciding on and installing one they can use AbiWord Portable and try to open the DOC now without installing any software to the computer.
Also, I would try this first so there is no conflict with software that is already installed

Never thought of that, thanks. Will let him know and see how it goes.

I also thought is was strange and I already asked him was the doc password protected and he said it wasn't. If opening in word pad fails I will try your suggestions posted above. Openoffice is a pretty good alternative to microsoft office too so he should give that a shot.

    Thanks for your replies!
