ok, so i am borderline retarded with computers... however my sister insists that i am good with them, only because i know more than she does. anyway, i am trying to fix the many problems on her computer. this machine is plagued with the OE:017F:BFF8E64B errors and various other kernel32 related confusion. i have looked at countless other threads involving the same issues, and have run a hijackthis scan and attached the log to this post. i can't seem to find any of the things to fix in my log that i saw other people fixing in their threads. if someone could help me, you'd be my sister's hero, and mine, since this machine is driving me up a wall today.

thanks in advance for your help, and i am so sorry for asking you all what you have been being asked over and over and over again for some time.

    Hello,
At a first glance I don't see anything harmful in that log. What I do see is a lot of things you don't need, using cpu and memory resources.
How many different antispyware programs are you running?

Oh and I'd say the biggest problem in that computer is called "Windows ME". But that's just my opinion. ;)

    /Regards

what are the specs on the computer and how old is it?

Can you list the full error she is having? Even if it is multiple, knowing all the errors can be helpful.

In addition, when do these errors happen? Can you duplicate these errors? If so, this may narrow down what is going on.

sorry for my slow response. and thank you guys for your quick responses.

in response to Mav3rik, i can't agree with you more on the whole not digging Windows ME thing. about the mutliple antispyware programs, yeah, i suppose she does have a handful... funny thing is, i noticed that even after updating all of them, some are catching things the others aren't. Maybe that's why there are so many...? heh

padams, it's just an old stock Dell from a few years, and since she said it came with Windows ME, i would guess it's from ME's short lived hayday around the change of the millenium. as for the specs, i revert back to saying i am pretty stupid with computers, so i am not entirely sure what all specs you are asking for.

theefool, as of right now, i am going to start making note of every error i get for you (so i should be posting again in a couple hours, most likely) and i can't determine whats making them occur. from what i have gathered, it's not the same thing every time, somtimes one could just be running a google search, sometimes one could be in the middle of reading an email.... i can't seem to make them happen. but if i do notice a trend, i'll report it back here.

thanks again for the help in progress.

    peace

    ok... so here's some starters.
first off also, this machine won't shut down. you have to do it manually. the same goes with restarting it 9 out of 10 times.

so, twice now the blue screen came up when clicking a link to a friend's profile on myspace, giving me the whole
PRESS ENTER TO RETURN TO WINDOWS OR
    PRESS CTRL+ALT+DEL
    Filename VMM(01)t000132CC Error:OD:0028:C00142CC

so, i hit a key, and got the same thing only with
    Error:OE:0028:C00313OE

    then it froze.

another time, i didn't catch what the blue screen said because i was in the midst of typing my password in at either yahoo or myspace, and then i got the white error box: IEXPLORE caused a general protection fault in module USER.EXE at 0003:00000ea7
i click ok: get the first mentioned blue screen with Error:OE:017F:BFF8E64B
i hit a key, and get another white error box EXPLORER caused a general protection fault in module USER.EXE at 0003:00000ea7

tried to get back online again after it shut all the windows and when i double clicked the icon, rather than connecting, it opened the "internet options" window....

i hope i put all that muck in right order, and i am not coming off like a COMPLETE idiot.

I'll leave figuring out the errors up to the smarter people on here, but my advice to you is to back up your stuff, and lay down a fresh new copy of xp on your computer. If you don't want to run xp then you should consider windows 2000 at least. Sorry, but i think ME was one of the worst os that ever lived and i have no clue how to fix your problem. i knew someone who was having the same problem as you and we pretty much just destroyed their computer.

    Sorry i'm not much help.

hey padams, i totally agree with ditching ME. it's just not my computer, and my sister is literally on the other side of the world at the moment. i appreciate the input. and there's no need to apologize for not being much help. i should apologize for trying to fix a computer running ME.

as for any others in here who are still interested: i have gotten a couple new errors, again getting the blue screen when clicking a link. Error:OE:0028DA8A2143 i hit a key and tried to finish what i was doing at least and got another Error:OE:0028C279E2DD.

    thanks

craigmatic, in my experience when a windows 9x starts crapping in that manner, there's only one way to go...

If it was up to me, I'd back up all personal and work documents (before you stop having access to the files, which by the looks of it, can happen any moment ;) ), erase that sorry excuse for an operating system from existance, and do a clean format and install.
Now, assuming that computer hasn't got the required specs to run win2000 or winXP, you should install Windows 98 SE and then patch it up with IE6 and everything else.
Imo win98SE is better than Windows ME.
Windows ME is just win98 with lots of new bugs. :p

just tell your sister, sis.......your hamster died. and while she's crying tell her that her computer died too, but you can fix it. she'll be so devistated about the hamster she won't care about the pc and then it's smooth sailing from there on out!!!!!

Just a few things you might try. :)

    1. Repair Internet Explorer

    a. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
    b. Double-click Add/Remove Programs, click Microsoft Internet Explorer and Internet Tools, and then click Add/Remove.
    c. Click Repair Internet Explorer, click OK, and then click Yes when you are prompted to repair the installation.
    d. Click Yes when you are prompted to restart your computer.

    2. I would disable CD Creator and Spyware Doctor. Surf for awhile, see if you get any errors. Also, try doing a normal shutdown with them disabled.

    3. Go to the Dell website and look for Software and Driver updates for her model computer.

    4. When you have time and are not using the computer for awhile, download and run Memtest, http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=1247

I tried to edit and too late.

I should have added to be sure and stay on a safe site (MG's) when you have Spyware Doctor disabled, just long enough to see if you get any errors for a couple of minutes.

Also, is this a trial version of Spyware Doctor, or has she had it awhile?

Something I haven't tried in ages, but sometimes may fix issues. Been using Vista lately.

Try: Click START, then RUN, then type in: scanregw.exe

When it asks for a backup of the registry, click yes.

Then reboot when it asks you to.

This tool may help out your VMM issues.

Also, is IE 6 sp1 installed on ME?
