ok i am back with another doom3 problem :(

ok now when i try and launch the game i get that little blue window with the error message

ERROR: wrong game DLL API version

what would be causeing this i have done nothing to the game from the time i installed it to the time i got this error message i think all i done was add the 1.1 patch

I went straight from the original game to the expansion (with the 1.1 installed in the middle, replaced by expansion data in about 10 minutes), so i haven't had this problem. What you can do is go to activision's website and check for the problem there. What my personal advice would be is: See if you really need 1.1, and if you don't, reinstall the game w/o 1.1. I beat the first game w/o it entirely, so it can't be all that necessary.

you could also copy the savegames folder and just reinstall the game.. then replace the new savegames folder with the old one and it should all be ok again... in theory
