    I'm new to MajorGeeks. I did have a computer mentor, but he has passed away and I'm now I'm having to "Go it alone". He was the one who I heard speak of Geeks. I have a TOSHIBA M45-S269 running factory XP. Unit is 6 years old or so. But serves my needs well.

    Last year it was running slow. My mentor helped me make a mirror drive on a portable hard drive and a boot disk using Acronis. He introduced me to Advanced Care 3, Crap cleaner and recommended their use after each computer use.

    This Christmas I had family in and allowed various family members access to my system. (I know...kick me later.) I noticed after they left, when I accessed my computer it would respond erratically to google searches. I would get redirected to other sites/search engines. I ran my crap cleaner and other "preventatives". Too late.

    My mentor has passed away since last year and is not available to assist me.

    I have taken the following steps:

    1. At attempt to do a start up the system would continually reboot.
    2. I changed start up to stop upon a failed attempt.
    I got the "A problem has been dectected and windows has been shutdown to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again follow these steps:
    - Disable or uninstall any anti-virus, disk defragmentation or back up utilities. Check your hard drive configuration, and check for any updated drivers. Run CHKdsk /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.
    Technical Information:
    *** STOP: 0x00000024 (0x001902FE, 0xf8bd416c, 0xF8bd3e68, 0x83259805)

    I followed the instructions and no change.
    =====
    I did figure out how to get the system to boot in the safe mode. (Which only works if I skip the SPTD.sys at the end of the sequence.)
    But then I have no access to the internet.
    =====
    I figured out how to modify the boot sequence and attempted to use my Acronis boot disc... I used the choice which enables the usb drive and attempted to restore my disc...the system just locks up and says it's loading but none of the drives are working and the screen is in perpetual "loading" mode.
    ======
    I attempted to utilize my TOSHIBA recovery disc which was still in it's packaging...but there was a TBIOSDRV.SYS not found and the disc appears to be useless.
    =======
    I borrowed a friends laptop and looked up your site I have followed the instructions on your READ Me page, through the portion which tells me to access the web and run various programs. MY SYSTEM will still not boot in windows without the safe mode, and in the safe mode it won't access the internet.
    ++++
    I'm stuck... I think I've done all I should and I've made zero progress.

    What am I missing? HELP!!!!

    Welcome to Major Geeks.
    Try getting here in "Safe Mode with Networking".

    No luck with the booting into "Safe Mode with Networking".... I get the computer up....but when I attempt to launch Internet Explorer I get a Windows needs to shutdown and before I can answer I get the message:
    "Application can not be executed. The file Rundll32.exe is infected. Do you want to run anti-virus software." Yes or No....
    When I answered no, the next message is similar but lists the file drwtsn32.exe as infected.
    .
    In the past I've been told I should not agree to run anti-virus at this point as a needed file might be deleted.... So I hit "x" out closing Internet Explorer.

    Then how about getting the software you need to run malware removal procedures onto a flashdrive or a CD via the friends laptop and transfer them onto the infected machine. Ignore updates as you wont be able to do them for the time being. Run the scans and attach the requested logs. A fix will be prepared for you and then you may well be able to boot into normal mode again to complete any remaining malware removals.

    Of course all this must be done in the malware removal forum and not here in software.
