Ok.. ive lost my moniter :\

i did something and now my moniter has disappeared...

when i start up... i get the whole memory test and windows page come up... but when it should be logged into windows my screen is blank :|.. (obviously im writing this from another pc but would be grateful if anyone can help me out with a prompt response

i cant remeber... whether i removed it and change something in the bios with plug and play or if i i did one or the other or what i actually did.. i cant even get it to start in safe mode ... know where i can get a copy of what a standard bios thing looks like so maybe i can compare

 

try using another monitor if that dosen't work you really ****ed something up. if it does work reinstall the video card and see what happens.

Try to either Reinstall Windows, Make sure the cable is plugged in all the way in the back of the Tower. Or try to go into the Bios and restore its default settings (should be a button). Or change the plug & play back because your moniter is probably considered plug & play.

 

definatly. if you have another comp you could pull the Video card out of it and try that. if that works your V card got fried and you just need to get a new one.

 

Could try restoring defaults in bios?

 

I don't think his video card is fried, or how is it displaying the Windows logo and the memory check when he first turns his computer on?

try this, you can start Windows XP and 2000 in safe mode by pressing F8 when te boot menu is displayed. After you press F8 the advanced option menu is displayed with the following options.

safe mode
safe mode with networking
enable boot logging
enable VGA
Last known good configuration
Directory Service restore mode
debug mode

Select VGA mode, this is useful if maybe you have accidently installed a new driver or something allowing windows not to display.

try it and report back.

also try safe mode if it doesent work.

Try to take the cmos batt. out for a few min. and then replace it . Then at start up, set bios back to defalt. Can"t hurt anything good luck Chuck

 

ya just try everything we said if you can. this is a real pickle

 

one question when the screen goes blank does the hard drive keep loading or does it stop too, if it stops too i don't think its a video card issue, it might be a windows issue, i had a laptop that did that and it was because of some virus, after i took it off it was fine, i also had one stuck on loop mode so after the windows screen it would just reboot by itself over and over.

im not sure how visible this is ... but its what i get when trying to start in safe mode

i dont know if it helps any ?? or if anyone knows wtf it is ?

 

They're system files that are loaded and shown when you boot into safemode. It's perfectly normal.




I saw this thread title "I've lost my monitor" and my first instinct was then "well where did you last see it"

 

and it just stays like that. it dosen't actually go into safe mode. here try this providing you have an operating system CD. boot to command prompt with cd-rom support and run the OS setup and see if the install screen appears.
