HI EVERYONE, AND HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL!
    Got a predictament!
I have a Toshiba Satillite 2515CDS (Given to me free) It was working like a charm. I tooke WIN98 and upgraded it to ME for XP wouldn't take unless I changed the file system it claims. But anyways, I went on the Toshiba website and downloaded all the latest drivers into it including the BIOS update.
It worked FINE at that point. Turned it on and off a almost four days. Played games, used MS Word, etc. The Battery runs without the AC. NOW..... one morning I went to turn it on and guess what? Doesn't power at all. I tried to trickle charge the battery. Nothing. I plugged the AC in, and it lights up for the ac, but when I hit the power button it turns green for a slpit second, and then orange. Does not want to power at all.
Any suggestions???? If the Bios for that model wasn't correct, why did it boot many many times afterwards? I tried other outlets, and other adapters. Nothing. Should I pop a different HD in it, and see if it will boot?
help, help...... please. All input welcomed!

Install a new mobo in a laptop hmmm:) ,your prob looks like power failure prob, the power light changing colour or flashing when you press it is usually a sign the battery needs charging, but ofcourse you have the adapter installed

My guess is the laptop was using the battery for power even though the adapter was installed and was continuously charging it as the laptop was draining the power and now the battery is completely dead

Try a used battery or buy one and return it if it doesnt fix the prob :)

Pull the battery core out of the laptop, and plug the ac adapter in, if you don't get any lights I would say the adapter is either NFG or the jack where it plugs into the board may have come loose. try wiggling it gently, if you get a green light for a split second it is most likely the jack. If not then the ac adapter is junk. Check for a light on the adapter. I would say most likely the battery has drained down and now you are empty. It's a good thing it didn't bottom out while flashing the bios or you would have had a big paperweight on your hands. Keep us informed of what you find.

Plugging the AC in without the battery in it still lights up. If I put the battery in, and unplug the AC it flashes orange. AC Light.
I cannot get it to stop until I pull the battery. I will check for any loose connections and let you know. Thanks

Sorry it has taken me so long to reply, but I was waiting for my son to bring home a laptop that I gave him to try some things. Unfortunately it is not the same kind, so the parts are different inside for me to try several things.... but I will tell you... I booted HIS laptop with MY adapter. So..... doesn't that mean it is NOT the adapter on my laptop causing it to go..........?
One more thing. I forgot all about this. My five year old was playing with a magnet at my laptop. Did this magnet wipe out my harddrive, and how to I fix this little dilema if that is the case.... I am not sure.
I have never had a problem fixiing pc's as long as they power somewhere. But when the power won't even go on, is totally new to me.... Can someone please help with any advice you may have.

The magnet may have wiped out the information on the drive but not the drive it self. How long did you leave this laptop pluged in for while turning it on. The reason I ask is I had a compaq that would take almost five minutes to eventually boot. I never figured out what caused this but I assumed the battery died and the adapter had to charge the caps.

    two more things to try,
reset the ram sticks or remove them completely. ( I think this is the problem)
replace the battery on the mobo

I had it plugged in for 48 hours. the battery light and ac light lit green. Until I hit power, then the AC light turned orange.
How do I reset the ram sticks? Just remove and put back in???
    Please let me know.

    thank you

yes, pull them outthen put them back in. If you have two try one then the other if pulling them out and putting them back in dosn't work.
