I just got a new hard drive. It is bigger than my current hard drive. I have plugged it in, it loaded drivers when I turned on my computer, now I want to have the computer read when I open up my computer so that I can see that it is reading the correct storage size, then I want to clone my primary hard drive onto the new hard drive and use the new one as the primary and wipe everything off of the original drive to use as a slave drive. I hope this makes any kind of sense. Help would be greatly appreciated.

welp, I have formatted this new drive and it is only showing up as 1.99tb of 3tb in windows 7 32 bit. Can anyone help me fix this problem so that I may move on to trying to clone my primary disc onto this new drive?

You need to have the drive set to GPT (go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Computer Management, Disk Management). Normal volumes have a 2.2Gb size limit. And I believe unless your motherboard has a UEFI BIOS I don't think you can use a drive that big as your boot drive. Your best bet would be to get a 64Gb SSD as your boot (Windows installed to the SSD) and use the 3Tb for programs/data/media storage. Windows would load and run much faster.

ok, Im guessing I cant use the new #tb hard drive as my boot drive. So, with that, I would still like to try to be able to read the entire hard drive if this is possible. I am on an asus p5qe mobo, windows 7 32bit. This drive will be my slave drive. Any tips to get this drive to read beyond the 1.99tb of space so that it can read the entire 3tb of space would be greatly appreciated.

I think I have solved the problem here. thank you for your help. also, what i did was use partition master, changed the partition to gtp. nw it reads the entire drive, les see this holds up. lol
