Do you know how to install a hard drive as a slave?? If so...do that, and then when you boot up your system...you should be able to see everything on his hard drive through "my computer" and then if you want you can paste and copy anything (or the whole drive) onto your drive, or burn onto cd, or whatever!!

How about the following from the build...anything I didn't list, you can **** from the old dell!!

    Case w/psu...

    Mobo and cpu combo deal....

    Cooling fan for cpu...

    Video card...
    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1476649&CatId=694

OS...(you have to buy a new windows because the one with his dell WILL NOT work with ANYTHING else!!!! But this is a good deal.....
    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=335878&Sku=M17-7500

Optional SATA hard drive, if for some reason his doesn't work....

I think I got all my links right this time, but let me know if something isn't chucking and jiving right!!

ok cool yea i know how to put the drive on there i was just wondering if the os on it was gonna try and start when i started up the pc;) (i am waitting on them links to load right now i hate dialup) i never realy worked to much with amd but if its cheaper i will that way it will save the guy some money (i still cant beleave dell is to cheap to put a cpu fan on its processors) everything looks good and anything thats useable from the dell i will run everything by the guy tommorrow and see what they say

the pc is going to be used for mainly internet maybe some games but i really dont know lol

If you put that hard drive in as a slave (actually, you might want to do CS) it will not try to boot the os on that slave drive!!

Lots of those commercial computer builders will actually run duct work from the cpu to the psu...and just rely on the psu fan to do the job!!

The build I just presented to you, is VERY similar to what I have...and I can tell you...it will be a VERY adequate system for what you have said he will probably do with it!! And if he does any heavy duty gaming...then just kick it up a notch with the video card...if needed!!

Let me know if you have anymore questions!!

i do beleave the hard drive that was in it is no good i booted up just fine with it in. so i did a virus scan of it and from alot of trojens and i ran a spyware check and deleted all the spyware befor i get in to it so i cleaned up the hdd only to find out that they may have droped the pc at one time because from what scandisk is saying well to make it short its in bad shape so as of right now i am formating it and going to do another scan just to make sure thin is its still in that shape it will just have to be junked might open it up and use its disks on the side and top of there new pc lol wont that look good;)

What is it doing that makes you think that the hard drive is mechanically screwed up????

While you've got it in the machine...you might as well back up the important stuff and format it!! You are going to have to reinstall windows for the new build anyway, and I hate repair installs...it just feels like it's a half ass job, if you know what I mean!!

However...incase you didn't know...don't load/install windows for the new system until the drive is in the new system!!

And make sure that you reset the CMOS in the new build...before you fire it up!!

Let me know how you come along!!

the hdd is making a clicking sound when i use it and i only ran into that one time befor and that was when i test droped a old wb 250mb hdd and i know what you mean about windows lol so the total will be around $300 for the new bulid is there anyway i can save that guy a few bucks on it? because what i could see from the hdd they only use it for internet and music the only games i seen on it was the windows games lol so i think we might still beable to save him some money

You can always go with a cheaper graphics card...and a less powerful cpu!!

What are the cpu specs on the dell he has now?? I was just assuming that he wanted something that was equivilant to what he has now, or maybe better...depending on what kind of deal you can find him!!??

I'm on the run right now...but let me get back to you later this afternoon and we can possibly find some things a little cheaper!!

Like I said we need to know what he expects as far as the performance he is expecting!! Does he SRICTLY want to just get by...or is he wanting to compete with NASA...or something inbetween!!

    I'll be back later!!

Do you know what socket the cpu is (for shure)...if so we could maybe find you a deal on just a board and you could use the cpu from the dell...otherwise you're going to have to pay to get that kind of power!!

I'm and AMD man myself, so I don't know much about deals/pricing on Intel stuff...however...like I said...if you can get the EXACT specs on (FSB, socket, etc., EVERYTHING) about the cpu...there is no reason we can't research/find something!!!!

Going grocery shopping with the wife and I'll check back!!
