Since it appears no one can help me with any of my problems I decided to just go ahead and re-install windows 2000 professional.
When I am in DOS and I type format c: It informs me that all files will be erased. I say yes and then a message says this drive is in use. Do you want to force a dismount. I say yes and then it says cannot lock drive volume still in use.

So NOW what? I need HELP really bad!!! Since no one really wanted to help with my problems this is all I have left to do - start all over again!!!! So am I going to be ignored or is there truly someone out there that knows what they are doing and could actually find time to help me on this one.

if you really want to format.. ok..
but don't run format from a command prompt from within Windows 2000. Use the CD and boot off the CD.. it should load with all the installation instrucitons you require (on screen).

negative.. I did not instruct you to locate format on the CD. If this is an original Win2K disk, then it is bootable. I.E. put it in your CD ROM drive and restart your machine. It should boot off the CD (provided the CD ROM drive is set for FIRST BOOT device in the BIOS) and start the installation process which has , as part of the installation, the ability to format the drive.

I will try, but when I did it before, the disc never asked me if I wanted to format - it just installed ANOTHER copy of windows 2000. So now I have 2 to choose from when I 1st power up the computer.

it's not that explicit. The installation will offer you options of installation. Be patient and read them carefully.

You need the server settings from your ISP , it should all be on your documentation.

    For example:

    Incoming Mail Server: pop.anyisp.com
    Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.anyisp.com

*These are examples. You will also need your sign in & password, again it should all be on your documentation from your ISP:)

They usually go in your email proggy account settings
