ol black screen

Son in law using his dad’s pc has given me the job of fixing his pc by phone. I’ve gotten all the info and it looks troublesome to me. So I am turning to the Majors for some help.
Win XP pro
Sp1 ,, [has blue bar on window load not green]
He has turned off live windows update. “Not good”
Cd win xp wont run

Black screen says something to the affect of “ sorry for the inconvenience window did not load properly ect “
Then gives count down to load with options and so on ,,,, as to pick last known good config and so on
Problem is keyboard does not work so we can’t pick any of the options
Any help please ,,,, thanks in advance ,,, Jeff

 

to admin why where posts removed?

 

Green load bar indicates SP1.
Blue load bar indicates SP2.

Is it a "wired" keyboard (ie; AT or PS2) or a wireless?

Do the lights flash once on bootup?

Checked connections or tried another keyboard?

he is at the house now till the week end but he tells me he's sure it lights up and runs the lights over and over, we'll double check that
connections have been checked
have to give him a keyboard to try , cheers

 

other then the keyoard i gess there is no repleys
to the shop it goes
