Old but New

I have been a member for a while now, but have never posted because I'm not really sure how this all works. I've been trying to educate myself, but I read the more confused I get. The computer acronyms are like a foreign language to me! So..the little knowledge I have gained has made been dangerious. The problem. I crashed my computer, reinstalled the operating system, and I've been trying to figure out how to update everything. My computer is pretty old, a HP Pavilion dv 8000 CTO Note Book, running windows XP sp3. The problem is before it crashed, it was windows XP Professional. Now its the Media Center Addition. When I was updating to service pack 3, I think I installed the wrong version, and now I'm wondering can I uninstall that and install service pack 3 professional? I hope this is the right place to inquire? If not I apologize.

 

Yes you can uninstall Service Pack 3 but be for warned it could break the system even more.A lot of programs might require it i would not recommend uninstalling it.

And i think Xp Media Center Addition requires Xp SP3.

But not sure i only use Xp professional.

 

Thank you for the info. I'm thinking of maybe trying this. A little background on what happened might give you more insight. When I was updating to get service pack 3 back on my computer at the microsoft download site, it said if my computer was not a company computer or somthing to that effect that I should download service pack 3 for non professionals, so that is what I did. Can I go back there and just download the professional service pack without uninstalling the service pack 3 I have? How does a download work? If the file is already in my computer will it just not install it or will it be installed twice?
