I have an older computer with a celeron running 2000 and memory is only 96? Everything I see wants pentium II or higher. I don't need mp3, dvd or anything fancy. I just want to save my pics before the hard drive finally dies on this thing. I also want to be able to work with the pic's from the backup. I am a graden geek and not so great with computers. Had a basic Nero once and it worked fine for what I needed, but am trying to go cheap. Any ideas?

I don't really see a question in here. I'm going to assume from the topic that you're asking for a cd burner that will work on an old celeron based computer. If that's the case don't worry the celeron chips were the chip pentium 3 based chips. Of course it doesn't actually matter. You can use cd burners on 486's. You just have to watch system resources. If you're low on memory things like having the screen saver turn on while burning can make you end up with a nice coaster. :)

At any rate you can use any cd burner and basicly any cd burner software on that older computer and you'll be just fine, if it's really slow just make sure you clsoe everything before burning.

If that wasn't your question then please let me know what it is you wanted to know and I'll try to help.

Maybe I phrased it wrong. I am in need of a burning program. All of the programs I see require 128 meg of memory and I have 96. Nero's free version is one I looked at. Is there a link to an older version of Nero? I have a copy, but when my computer was upgraded to 2000 it would not reload without a license #. Hope this explains my need better. I just have a lot of great pictures that I want to back up as well as some of my teaching material and I want to be able to "use" them from the back up. Help?

Just ignore the listed minimum's. They arn't really the minimums. You could burn using nero with 64 megs of ram. I've personally done it with as little as 32. The requirements are only listed because it's likely to work better with those, thus having less support questions to answer.

If you're below the listed requirements just make sure you close everything before burning. That means all those little icons by the clock should be gone. Even disabling the screen saver can help, but I don't think it will be an issue for you.

CDBurner XP is very good, and it's free.

Although the name is misleading, it works on all Windows platforms.
