    Hey,
I've recently gotten a new PC and a new OS. I now run Windows 7 64bit and have quite a few old games.
I'm expecting it to be..fun..to get most of them working but I'd like to ask about one in particular that I've had issues with in the past.

I want to install Dungeon Keeper 2, one of my all time favourites but I've read bits here and there about issues.
I had problems with stuttering sound and crashing when I ran Windows XP so I'd like to ask about any issues that may arise and what I can do to attempt to get this game to run smoothly now I'm using Windows 7.

Any help gratefully recieved, I'm not new to gaming or issues but I do need plain speaking I'm afraid.

    Hi

You could try DOSbox and see if that helps.

Try right clicking the games shortcut and click the compatability tab and choose Windows XP and then Run in 640x480 Screen Resolution or try the game in Windowed mode again right click the shortcut and add a space at the end of the text in Shortcut > Start In box then "-w" and then run game. (eg C:\programs\game name\run.exe -w)

Thank you. I've been playing for several hours with no issues so far with this advice.
I have not yet had to try DOSbox but I have downloaded it in case.

    Hi RowanWolf

Great stuff and no need to try anything else as in DOSbox yet, as the other idea looks as it its stable if you have been playing for several hours, a quick test would be to close down the game and reboot, then try again, if it still works ok then we have the fix for you.

    Cheers for the update.

Hoped I wouldn't be back again but I've been testing it out and it is crashing each time I play.
I'm getting a minimum of about 30-45 mins play, sometimes longer and then a crash.

    Hi

Have you tried Dosbox yet or is it crashing with that?

Try disabling your antivirus and security applications and test again.

In addition to doing compatibility mode, which DirectX version does Dungeon Keeper 2 want? Install it from the disk, and try the game again.

Is this the same computer that has stutter when running DK2 in Windows XP, or did the new OS come with a new system? Regardless of which, a list of specs would be great. :)

If you don't know what's in the system, install and run Speccy, get a report, and attach it to your next post. It will tell me.

Have you checked online for an update or patch for the game? Sometimes such are put out, either by the original maker or third parties.

I had to do that for a game ("Dark Reign," I think it was) to get it to play on a newer operating system.

I've not tried DOSbox yet..going to look at that.
I have checked for patches, I do each time I install it.
    The game requires DirectX 6.1

It is a different system than last time I tried to run it yes.
