I am trying to fix my laptop that I've had for a few years.

It's had hard drive problems in the past.
I have replaced the HD 2 times before and everything would work fine.

So I just replaced the HD again, but now it freezes when I try to load acronis(or anything else) to install windows.
I know there are allot of other problems now.

I'm just about to give up on it because I don't know if it's worth it.

Do you guys have any suggestions?

    Thank you.

What brand and model of laptop do you have and what version of Windows are you running?

I'm running an "old" Dell Precision M70 running XP Pro that I've had to replace the system board on and Monday, I've got to replace the graphics card when it comes in so that I can install Vista. I really have no choice in the matter because a newer laptop will cost more than I can afford in one shot. So, I've had to do repairs/upgrades piecemeal.

It is a toshiba satellite gaming laptop.

    The OS is windows 7.

I don't think the OS matters because right now the hard dive is brand new and not able to install anything on it.

Have you been getting WD Green series hard drives? There are reported dependability issues with the WD Green series and you could get a bad drive "out of the box". If I get WD drives, I get the Blue or Black series. I've also had success with Seagate, Samsung and Toshiba brands and since it's a Toshiba laptop, perhaps going with a Toshiba drive may solve some of the drive failure issues you've had.

The hard drive is 500GB Seagate.

I just replaced it with Seagate so I don't think the HD is the problem.

I'm thinking there may be a problem with the Memory/RAM.
I have a disc with Memtest86+ on it, but don't know if there is somthing better.

    Does anyone have a suggestion?

    Thank you.

Hi my friend , you are right , you must run memtest86 for 5 hours or so , 7th pass is most important , even at the bottom of the laptop there is a sticker with the model of your laptop :wave
