old machine swapfile size with 96mb of ram??

Have a buddy, his machine k6 350 with 32mb of ram. Gotta do usual defrag etc. Hasn't been checked for errors for 728 days DOH. Anyway, I can't seem to remember what the rule of thumb for a swapfile is. We have increased his ram from 32mb to 96 mb. Do you basically double the amount of ram for swapfile size, so the swapfile should be 192MB or triple it to 288? How much is to much? Wanna see an improvement in performance(yeah right LOL) without lugging the thing down.

 

the old ROT as I remember was

1.5 X Current RAM.

i would double your amount of ram in some extreme cases possibly triple

 

Two schools of thought here , try either once you have you ram installed .

To improve swap file ( Virtual Memory ) usage on systems ( W9x/ME ) with more than
64Meg RAM .

DON'T set any min/max parameters . Let Windows handle it!
Put this entry in the system.ini file under [386enh] .
ConservativeSwapfileUsage=1
Check on your swap file occasionally; if you haven't been playing
games or running intensive apps, the swap file often will be 0 (zero).

To set a Minimum swap file & let Windows handle the Max .
Start > Run > System.ini
In the [386Enh] section add a line like

MinPagingFileSize=130000

Save, exit, reboot

(The above sets the min to 130MBs)
