I was looking for something and I started looking through my electronics bin when I found a reallllly weird, (weird as in the head phone jack & the USB port aren't standard but much smaller) old mp3 player. It's a cheap little thing, doesn't even have a name but I turned it on and it still worked. I wanted to see if I could get the songs that are on there off, so after more digging I found the USB cord that fits it.

Here's where the problem came in, I plugged it in and Windows found the driver and auto-played opened. The folder opened and I had about 6-7 folders of song (titles/names) plus a about a dozen songs without a folder. I went to play a song, to see if they worked or corrupted, but it worked. I closed out of WMP (or I attempted to) when it froze. The only way I could get WMP to close was via task manager. I decided this time just to copy all the songs over and play around with them later but now this time when I opened the folder, the only there was about 6 songs listed. Where did the other ones go? Are they gone for good?

    Thanks!

I always disable auto play. Sometimes allowing auto play lets an app like WMP do what it wants. Just a lesson for later.

I can't imagine it deleted them.

Disable autoplay and see what you have in Windows Explorer. If that fails you have 2 options

1: Check for hidden files. Click properties of the drive and look for hidden files option.
2: Try it on another computer.

Thanks! I tried all your tips but I still could only see those six songs. I had thought it to be a lost cause.

I was being nosy and looking around the properties of the drive when I noticed that Windows was indicating that over half of the 1GB drive was full, 6 songs can't possible take up a 1/2 gig! So I ran a recovery software program that found all the songs and successfully retrieved them. I'm still not sure how 95% of the songs got corrupted but at least I got them back.
