This is not a discussion about the war or in any way related to support or disapproval for the war...

I came across this article a few weeks ago and was surprised... I never remember hearing about it much in the American media and I'm just perplexed as to why this information wasn't mentioned in the weeks preceding the war... Why didn't Colin Powell use this information in his speech to the United Nations and say:

"Russia's secret service had information on more than one occasion that Iraq was preparing acts of terror in the US and its facilities worldwide."

wouldn't that have been the most clear and convincing argument? The article says that the Russians passed that information on to the U.S. so i just don't understand why it was never mentioned in the media nor why the media hasn't made a big deal about this revelation as of late... I watch of a lot of American news media and can't recall hearing it mentioned...

I suspect you don't hear much because it's an election year, and any news validating the Bush administration in any way hurts Kerry's chance of beating him this November. They also didn't report the Russian-built Foxbat reconnaisance rigged fighter they found buried in the sand, fitted with CURRENT state-of-the-art French reconnaisance gear, nor the 20 or more live chemical-filled artillery shells they've found, nor the drums of component chemicals that make Sarin gas that they found (those are generally kept separate until they're needed, for safety reasons). Nor do they report that the number of murder-bombers in Israel is down drastically since Hussein isn't paying their families $25,000.00 for each "martyr". Fair and unbiased reporting.

GT that only answers half the question... why didn't the President or Colin Powell reference this Russian intelligence before the United Nations pre-war...

I don't know MiDGeT. Bush's crew has done a poor job selling and explaining Iraq from the very beginning. I said here sometime before the shooting started that I wished they'd focus less on the WMDs and more on Hussein's support of and links to terrorists in general. (He WAS a butcher, but that isn't getting much traction as war justification, as there are butchers all over the world.) So the WMD excuse has somewhat fizzled, and they have no fall-back positions (at least that they TALK about) as to why we're fighting there.
