Old Profile Info

Weird issue. I have an old 98 system I am upgrading to Windows 2000. Before I updated I deleted a bunch of things from the desktop like icons to programs and the desktop background I changed to none. After upgrading, whenever I create a new user, it gives me the old 98 profile, meaning that I have the old desktop background I thought I changed and puts icons on the desktop that I deleted.
Any ideas at all???

 

The problem could be that when you create a new account, the account goes into the All User setings which contain the Start Menu Programs, Shared Documents, the Desktop programs, etc....

I have Windows XP, but the fix to the problem should be similar. You need to find a folder called All Users (In Windows 2000 it may be called default user, or default, I don't have Windows 2000). Go into that folder and modify what you want changed with the Desktop and Start Menu. If you want the default account to look like yours, you need to Copy the files from your account into that one.

I don't know the path of this folder we are talking about, but in Windows XP it is C:\Documents and Settings\All Users (or default, whichever one it is stored in) If it isn't there search for the folder, Windows key+F or Start-->Search (Find) and try looking for All Users and Default.

As far as changing the background, this is probably stored somewhere in the registry, and I do not know where. DO NOT MODIFY THE REGISTRY UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING!!!!!!!!
