    Hi
A friend of mine wants to run an old dos program, a cad design program from 1986 on his xp box. it runs fine in 98, but the graphics are wrong in the xp version of dos. I'm wondering if there is a way to put an older version of dos on it to run this from xp?
    Thanks
    Jim

Try dosbox It's a dos emulator though mainly for games. Might work for you.

You could also try Compatibility Mode.

Right-click the executable, (on both the installer and installed program), then Properties, then the Compatibility tab and play around with the setting there.

If that all fails, then there is the Application Compatibility Toolkit, which is on your Windows CD, or a later version can be downloaded from Micro$$oft, however it's not really a program for the uninitiated.

Dos Box didn't help. After the splash screen the graphics went all funny and it started making weird sounds. Compatibility mode didn't work wither. It seems to lock up at the splash screen when allocating extended memory. I tried all sorts of settings in the compatibility mode, but none could get me past the splash screen.
