old Windows 95 game

OK..OK.. So I'm a dinosaur...lol.
But can anybody please tell me if there is any way to make my Windows XP play an old Windows 95 game that I have on CD.

It's Interactive Mahjongg and I would love my grandkids to be able to play it on my (Windows XP) puter when they visit.

If there IS a way, can I have it in simple terms please..befitting a mouldy oldie like me...rofl.

Well, you could install it onto your computer and it should make a desktop icon. Right click the desktop icon and click on "Properties". There should be three tabs at the top, General, Shortcut, and Compatibility. Click on "Compatibility" and click on the little box that says "Run this program in Compatability Mode for:" and then select Windows 95 from the drop down menu. I haven't tried this so I don't know if it'll work right, but it's worth a shot.

 

Just as hollisbrown said that you can try xp's compatibility mode but it's a toss of coin to see if older games will work in xp.

I"m going to try this for Descent 3, it never worked for me on my XP.

 

You need to try Compatibility Mode for both the installer and the installed game.

If 95 doesn't work, try another operating system, and play around with different combinations and settings.

There is also DOSBOX, which should work.

Failing all that, you can use the Application Compatibility Toolkit, but it's fairly involved.

It's on your XP disc, or you can download the latest version from Micro$$oft.
