    - Which is the browser that you use to connect to the Internet?

    - Were you able to go online without any issues earlier?

    - Do you remember making any recent changes to your computer after which this issue has started to occur?

-What was the issue be for pre restored?

-Was it just a restore windows option or did you have to fully format the drive?

I restored using the Samsung restore feature on the notebook. I did this because I was trying to 'clean ' the rubbish on it and used reimge -found on the internet- which led me a merry dance without getting anywhere so I though I will cure all this by restoring.
It was perfectly fine on the internet before using Chrome but on restoring there is only Internet Explorer and Mozilla on the screen and neither will access the internet . After going through Windows diagnostic I came up with the conflicts as shown above.
    Than you for your reply.

First let's test and see if there are issues with in windows.

    • Go to Start, then to Run, and type in "SFC.EXE /SCANNOW" (without the quotes - and with a space between the SFC.EXE and the /SCANNOW). The press Enter.

    • The program may (or it may not) ask you for your Windows XP installation CD - please insert it at the prompt. If it doesn't ask you for the CD this means that it wasn't necessary to replace any files.

    • In the event the the system asks you for the CD, you must visit Windows Update immediately after the scan is completed (Please note that there won't be any confirmation dialog - the program will just exit without telling you anything).

    • If this doesn't repair the problem with your system other troubleshooting procedures are require
Let us know if there are any errors showing.

Now we are going to make sure there are no errors are on disk.

    • Go to Start, then to Run and type CMD
    • While in command prompt Type chkdsk / f
    • When you press enter you will see a message.( chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process.Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts?) (y/n)
    • Press Y for yes and reboot system.
This should take about 30 mins or so depending how old the system is and how big the drive is.

Thank you for you help. but I am afraid when I click Start there is no 'RUN' option available on the screen so I do I get to the command prompt? Is there a F key that would access it? These keys have symbols but no descriptions as such as they are for the experts.
    Thanks again

While pressing the Windows key, press R.

And Command Prompt is on the Start Menu under Programs > Accessories.

Thanks again. done that and ran the programmes you suggested. No request for a system disk but I still kept it from 2010.
Sadly, when I try Internet Explorer it will not connect. I ran the diagnostic for internet and it comes back with check firewall settings -HTTP port 80, HTTPS port 443 and FTP port 21.
The notebook on the icon in the tray for the wireless internet shows excellent connection at 58 mps yet it is not getting trough to the system. very frustrating but do you have other suggestions?

    Thank again

I think port 80 is normally like for windows media player.

I think you might have to adjust the windows media player as well.

    There are
    RTSP/UDP
    RTSP/TCP
    HTTP
Three of these should be checked markd

USE port to receive data options should be unchecked

And Streaming proxy settings should set as HTTP browser.

Now i am not sure how these Windows media player network settings are now in Windows XP but they should still be the same as windows 7

Now all so if there was any virus or malware on your system be for the restore this could all so be effecting your system as well.Even though you restore your computer it still had the virus or malware hidden some where on the system. It could be effecting you from blocking the port.

    I would suggest running malwarebytes.http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/malwarebytes_anti_malware.html

"Port 80 is the port number assigned to commonly used internet communication protocol, Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP). It is the port from which a computer sends and receives Web client-based communication and messages from a Web server and is used to send and receive HTML pages or data."

Internet Explorer 8 is dead. XP is no longer supported by Microsoft without security patches for meant for embedded point of sale machines.

Without the right software patches, you should just put up a neon sign that says "HACK ME!"...

As much as XP is unsupported mostly, millions still use it and IE8 is not actually 'dead'.

You should be able to install it with the offline installer.

Why? Is that what this thread needs or is about? I don't think so.
And even though MS make mistakes, I don't think their system requirements are a fiction.

You could download the autopatcher from here - just click the first , or, second one in the list- depending on your system (x64, or, x 86)
    http://www.autopatcher.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=13&sid=4f6dca04e873d9a7314a37f2f6d50e40
Save the file, and then copy to usb, and put it on the XP machine. This may update as necessary for you to be able to use the web- may correct the http, and port problems.
Worth doing, also see that site for other help on XP

    Reset the Windows Firewall.
Open Windows Firewall > Advanced > Restore Defaults.
No it doesn't. Neither does IE10 or IE9.

Autopatcher will solve the Explorer version update problem.
Autopatcher will save a lot of time updating, and will need several restarts to update all, but will also update Explorer to whatever XP will accept-without having to go on-line-it is all in the download file that you save and the transfer to the XP machine (save to CD, if your XP version has not got the usb capability.)

Hello all. I am the original poster and am replying from my old Samsung Notebook N130 using Windows XP and Google Chrome. Thanks to everyone who helped or tried to. I tried endless permutations of what was suggested and got back - probably through a bit of trial and error but some logic especially whoever suggested enabling TLS. Istill do not understand all this but am very grateful that Major Geeks is there and people will help. I do have a new computer with windows 10 and I could afford to buy a new one tomorrow but I hate obsolescence for the sake of it.The sheer patience required to get this running again is a good feeling. thanks t all of you.
