Older Compaq 6430NX, AMD machine. Updates?

I have a 5 year old Compaq 6430NX desktop that has been relatively reliable and dependable. A couple months ago the cpu died and the computer repair guy localy fixed it by replacing the cpu with one he said is "just as good" as before. I said ok, fine. Well what th emachine had was an AMD XP2600+ w/266fsb, socket A cpu. The computer guy fixed it with a 1600+ cpu and this thing is slower than what I want. Affording a new computer is not possible at the moment.
What I would like to know is which AMD 2600+ chip do I need to replace it with to get back the performance it once had? Or can I go to a little bit faster cpu on this motherboard?

BTW, I'm not taking it back to the bozo who "fixed" it before....

If you already didnt know the full spec list of your PC here it is here at Compaq.

But to your CPU, did they change the motherboard at all do you know as this could have a baring on what CPU is put in?

If its the same motherboard as originally supplied with the PC then this is the CPU AMD AMD Athlon XP2600+ 2.133 GHz for a PGA462 Socket A motherboard, however these are old CPUs and I just checked a few online retailers who have none for sale, you may find some at a local small PC store or on eBay or maybe a US member may have a place to get hold of one of these to suggest for you.
