Why Is It That Some Older Games Work Fine On Xp And Some Don't?

Because MS-DOS is a dead OS, and XP doesn't have DOS at all. Old games run on DOS based OSes.

Emulation is always limited in terms of compatibility.

I would like to know how to make my old games run in xp too..
I bought a lot of them when kids were small mistakenly believing I would have time. Now their big enough to go play their own games and I don't really want to buy a bunch of new ones.. Is loading win 98 really the only option I have??

UH I want my under a killing moon, Gaberial Knight... Shivers, you know.. LOL The games that I never got to finish cause I couldn't focus.. ROTFLMAO

Whats an emulator and how does one work? I don't want to do anything highly illegal and am afraid I would majorly screw my lap top up trying to do that whole dual operating system that someone on another board tried to recommend...

Arlene (please speak slowly like you have to with really old people cause I don't understand things well some times.. I must have gotten it from the kids..)

::Sorry if I'm repeating what anyone else may have stated.::

If I were you, right click on the main application and go to "compatibility" tab and click the "Runs this program for compatiblity for ... (windows 95)"

That has helped me out ALOT!

Also, I dont see how DosBox could really be illegal. But then again M$ finds many a way to make things illegal...
I personally use DosBox and D-Fend frontend. I have alot of old StarTrek games which needs DOS. And I dont want to load my old win95 or 98SE on my hard drive... to many painful memories...

I recommend D-Fend Frontend for it. (makes everything a little easier.)

Plus, go to www.abandonware.french-kiss.biz (or something, google it)
They have alot of "newer" games then HOTU. (although HOTU is my fav.)

    :p
